Washoe County Jail Roster

The Washoe County, Nevada Jail Roster is a public transparency tool that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county detention center. WashoeCourt.us provides access to public information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Washoe County Sheriff, by visiting the detention center in person, or by calling the information line. The roster is maintained by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and is updated throughout the day as new detainees are processed. The search allows you to find out the custody status of a person, the charges filed, and the booking date.

Search Current Inmates in Washoe Jail

There are several ways to find out if a specific person is currently in the Washoe County Detention Facility.

Online Search

  1. Go to WashoeCourt.us — the site allows you to search for publicly available information on court cases and detainees.
  2. On the official page of the Washoe County Sheriff, find the section "Inmate Search" or "Who's In Jail". The roster usually displays a list that can be browsed or filtered by last name.
  3. Enter the full legal name (last name is required) or booking number if you know it.
  4. If the system does not have a separate search field, use the browser function Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on Mac) to find the last name in the list.

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster — their data is protected by Nevada law.

By Phone

Call the detention center directly. The operator can confirm if a person is in custody if you provide the detainee's full name and date of birth.

Find Washoe Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the detention center. It is not a conviction or admission of guilt — just a record of being taken into custody.

During booking, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of intake
  • Charges filed at the time of arrest
  • Arresting agency (Reno police, Sparks PD, sheriff, etc.)
  • Mugshot
  • Bail amount, if set

Most of this information appears in the online roster within a few hours of processing. To view the record, use the search on the sheriff's site or on WashoeCourt.us.

Need an official copy? Submit a public records request to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. To obtain a state-level criminal history, contact the Nevada State Police Records Division — the procedure involves fingerprinting and a fee.

Search the Washoe Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

By Last Name

Enter the last name in Latin script exactly as it appears in official documents. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one extra letter will exclude the desired result.
  • If the last name contains a hyphen or apostrophe, try a version without them.
  • Add the first name to narrow results for common last names like Smith or Garcia.

By Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate identifier. It is usually provided to the attorney or family during the first call from the detention center. Enter the number in the appropriate field, and the system will return a single record.

If the Search Yields No Results

  1. Ensure you spelled the name correctly; try a shortened name (e.g., "Rob" instead of "Robert").
  2. The person may have already been released — records disappear from the roster shortly after release.
  3. The booking may not be complete yet: processing sometimes takes several hours.
  4. Call the detention center at (775) 328-3062 and inquire directly.
  5. If the person has been transferred to the state system, search through NDOC inmate search.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Washoe

The roster is updated throughout the business day as staff completes processing new detainees and records releases. This does not happen instantly.

Typical delays and limitations:

  • Time of record appearance. Between physical arrest and publication in the online roster, it may take from one to several hours — while identification, medical examination, and data entry procedures are ongoing.
  • Disappearance after release. When a person is released on bail, by court order, or after serving their term, their record is removed from the current list. The roster only displays those currently in custody.
  • Not an archive. Past bookings are not stored in open access on this platform. To obtain historical data, an official public records request must be submitted.
  • Entry errors. Sometimes a last name is recorded with an error during booking. If you are sure the person was detained but cannot find them — a phone call to the detention center will resolve the issue faster.
